Initially just two band members: Isabel Muñoz-Newsome and Nicholas Owens, but now five, Pumarosa deliver one of the stand-out debuts of 2015 with the hypnotic Priestess.

With the slick input of Dan Carey (Bat for Lashes / Toy) on production duties, this is a track that swirls and intensifies over seven or so deep brooding minutes. The band describe their sound more accurately as “industrial spiritual”. Nailed it.

“Priestess, you dance, you dance, you dance” is the nagging, bewitching chant from Muñoz-Newsome as electronics and guitars meld and the groove sweeps you along, the drone somehow never muddying the waters. Look out for the saxophone coming in from band member Tomoya Suzuki which shouldn’t sound so right, but absolutely does. Music to get spooked out by and freaky-dance round the fire to this Halloween.

Update, October 22nd - just in time for that Halloween dance, the track’s official video is now available:
