By happy coincidence, we’re watching Conan again. Here he takes the opportunity to thank most of the band for their performance, sneaking up on and alarming Hope Sandoval in the process. Sandoval, after a typically meditative (some might say sleepy) performance, is visibly alarmed by the BFG appearing out of nowhere.

Throughout their career, the Mazzy Star method has remained pretty consistent, strum-strummery at a gentle pace with occasional guitar droning underneath, perhaps a plaintive string section, slide or pedal steel on top, and Hope Sandoval laying beautiful, brutal, heartbreak and tears over everything. Even the 17 year gap between 1996’s Among My Swan and their new post-reformation album Seasons of Your Day melts into nothing as you listen to tracks old and new, side by side.
