RIP Reg Presley, lead singer of The Troggs, a believer who used the royalty cheques brought to him by the phenomenal success of Wet Wet Wet’s cover version of Love Is All Around to fund crop circle research, and the inspiration behind Father Ted’s sweary rant during the troublesome writing of My Lovely Horse. In 1992, REM minus Michael Stipe collaborated with The Troggs to create Athens Andover, after REM had declared their admiration for Presley and his music, an admiration they had previously announced with their own version of Love Is All Around.
